During 2004, the bridge on the Pinjarra to Dwellingup railway located at the 13.383km peg was found to be in need of repairs to the deck, following monitoring of its deterioration. Appropriate inspections were carried out during the summer of 2004 -2005 and arrangements were made to begin the required repairs, which included renewal of the three outer main support beams (stringers). After much planning and organising of the required timbers and other materials by General Manager Ian Willis, dismantling began in March & reconstruction in April to enable the bridge to be finished prior to the 2005 steam season commencement on May 1st. A small team comprising HVTR Track Master, members and Pemberton Tramway maintenance staff commenced the major work of rebuilding during the week from Monday the 4th to Friday 8th of April. Ballasting of the bridge and abutment approaches was completed the following week by Les Falon and consumed 43 tonnes of 40mm bluemetal.
Another job well done
