Dowerin Field Days

Hotham Valley Railway for many years provided extra accommodation for the Dowerin Field Day's event by taking its fleet of Heritage Sleeping Cars to Dowerin.

In August 2002, XA 1401 hauled the Dowerin Field Days accommodation train from Pinjarra to Dowerin.

Showing that the X class is still a capable locomotive XA 1401 arrived on time in Dowerin.

The 2002 Dowerin Train hauled by XA 1401, which is currently the only operating X class locomotive in Western Australia, is seen here (above and below) at Armadale Station awaiting a green signal for clearance onto the suburban system where it will travel through to the Kewdale Bypass and across to Forrestfield and Midland before heading up the Avon Valley and out to the wheat belt town of Dowerin

It is rare nowadays to see the XA hauling trains on its own and this tour is probably one of the first all W.A.G.R. rolling stock trains to be run for a long time, being made up of Sleeping Cars, the "Mullewa" buffet car, Z9 Brake van and the uniquely Western Australian X class diesel locomotive

After arriving in Dowerin, XA 1401 has run around the train and prepares to be stowed for use as accommodation for the 4 nights of the Dowerin Field Days
